The Artist : Brian Scott
Brian Scott is a very traditional fellow, especially when it comes to technology. When you search for him on Instagram, you’ll find five or six artists named Brian Scott, but none of them are him. All you’ll find — at the moment — is a page on Flickr.com from 2007 on which he freely admits “I am new to computers” and has “recently started using MS Paint” and would love some tips. Despite this being a rather sparse introduction, the page has over 20,000 views. Brian’s painting style is highly impressionistic, some of which is, I think, quite brilliant. Brian and I have shared exhibitions on a number of occasions, including, when we felt like splashing out, the exquisite Southbank venue the Malthouse. More often than not, however, we had shows together at the same galleries as before, for instance Hogan Gallery on Smith Street Collingwood, which is now permanently closed (but just one block south of MAGMA Galleries, an upmarket and relatively new kid on the block). Brian also paints murals now and then, which is something I should get around to doing one day. Brian is a good friend and a very good artist. You can often spot him in the morning peddling his three-wheeled bike along Brunswick Street for breakfast.
